Sarah White & the Pearls

Sarah’s songwriting brings together rock, country, and punk, inviting comparisons to a broad spectrum of artists including Hazel Dickens, Patti Smith, Gram Parsons, Lucinda Williams, and Ryan Adams. Her talent for songwriting received national accolades at the 2007 Mountain Stage New Song Contest where she won Best Song for “Sweetheart”, the title track from her most recent EP. Sarah has shared the stage with a variety of acts such as Bonnie Prince Billy, Hall & Oates, Ben Folds Five, Loudon Wainwright III, Lilys, Chuck Prophet, King Wilkie, Justin Jones, and Michael Hurley.

Sarah’s sound has gained a punk-inspired attitude and energy with the new line-up of her backing band the Pearls, an eclectic group of seasoned rock, punk and country veterans featuring Jason Butler (Whitebird) on guitar, Michael Bishop (GWAR, Kepone) on bass, and Stuart Gunter (Wrinkle Neck Mules) on drums.

PRESS

Gorgeous, catchy and ultimately moving songs…
-- Ryan Muldoon, Richmond-Times Dispatch

Sarah's music kills me; beautifully from the ground up, no plastic. I got stuck behind a logging truck today. I was listening to Sarah. It was great.
-- Dave Matthews

It’s an album both spare and powerful, effortlessly and organically combining the forcefulness of rock and the soul of country. At the sonic center of the album is Sarah’s voice, the newly mature, edge-of-tears, catch-in-the-throat, flat-out heartbreaking voice.
